THE NEON SCREAM at HOPSCOTCH

February-March 2019 at Blue Genie Art Bazaar, Austin, TX.

The Neon Scream was an interactive installation that I created in conjunction with John-Michael Reed aka Dr. Bleep which was part of the Hopscotch interactive experience. The idea of ANGRY CLOUD as a cathartic vehicle was explored in a physical way, as viewers would have the opportunity to scream all-out into a microphone, causing the cloud to animate, with greater reactions from more intense screams. The effect was that viewers realized after witnessing and experiencing the interaction that an all-out scream is both a rare and transformative action affecting both the screamer and onlooker. Visitors were then directed to exit through a repurposed bathroom stall, where they were encouraged to identify the source of the feeling that inspired the scream by writing it on the wall.
